About Bolinas

Bolinas is located north of San Francisco by way of the Coast Highway 1. A short side road off the highway takes you around Bolinas Bay to the small town of 1,200. This part of the Coast Highway is very curvy and remote and covered with thousands of acres of forestland on one side and rocky cliffs that lead down to the ocean on the other side. The village of Bolinas is a quiet, private place and most people come here looking for solitude and to enjoy the incredible natural beauty of land and sea. Bolinas offers a good beach for sunbathing, surfing and exploring tide pools. For hikers, the Palomarin Trail takes you 3.5 miles to Bass Lake, and another mile in goes to Pelican Lake. This is a beautiful spot to stop and rest as you watch water fall down a rocky cliff into the ocean. There are a few restaurants and cafes in Bolinas, as well as a historical museum and an art museum. Nearby recreation includes Stinson Beach, Pt. Reyes National Seashore, Muir Woods and Agate Beach County Park. Bolinas is a place to sit back and reflect as you take in the sea air and surrounding beauty, but if you start to crave a little more action; San Francisco is just a short drive away.
